“DME” Composited Stems – Dialogue, Music and Effects
“DME” Composited Stems – Dialogue, Music and Effects
General Notes and Recommendations
- A separate set of composited Dialogue, Music and Effects stems (a.k.a. “DME”) can be made if delivery requirements call for them. These are generally a two-track Dialogue, two-track Music and two-track Effects, each made by adding and downmixing their associated stems.
- If there are nearfield stems, these are generally used to create the DME.
- Summing the DME at unity gain should equal the two-track mix.
- The DME must be clearly labeled and archived separately from the printmaster stems.
Formatting Recommendations
- The DME must be 6 individual consolidated channels as Broadcast Wave (.wav) files in single workstation session. It is not recommended to interleave the .wav files into stereo pairs, but it can be done if delivery requirements dictate.
- The workstation session may contain 3 two-track session tracks, or it may contain 6 individual mono tracks. Each track must be named to reflect its audio configuration and channel assignment.
