What to Preserve
Filmmaker Framing: Carlos López Estrada
Director Carlos López Estrada brings his unique creative insights to a discussion on the importance of preservation for digitally created films. His experience directing Blindspotting (2018) and Summertime (2020) led him to pioneer Antigravity Academy, a project dedicated to helping emerging filmmakers.
Andrea Kalas, who leads the Academy Digital Preservation Forum initiative, conducted the conversation. Estrada speaks about the process of very different creative directions for his films (he also directed 2021's Raya and the Last Dragon) and he also speaks of the need to educate future directors about digital preservation. This is the second interview in the Filmmaker Framing series, which features directors speaking about the importance of understanding creative vision and technical choices as part of preservation.
